3 Most Socially Responsible & Responsive Organisations! Updates About SDAc's Activities/Tips You Can Use |

I have always said a smart business person will be in tune with with happens in the society in which s/he operates or risk becoming obsolete or extinct. Between August to December 2006, I progressively took stock of what I "saw" some key organisations do in the Nigerian society. In the end, I decided to award them points and choose those I considered the Top 3 Most Socially Responsible & Responsive. You don't have to agree with my choices or the ratings I have given them. This is MY show. I can choose anyone I want and give them ANY scores I like. Having said that, I will add that I have made effort NOT to reflect the categories or areas of business interest of each organisation. Instead, I have chosen to look from a wholistic perspective at how what each one does, in my VERY PERSONAL opinion, has impacted on the every day lives of the average citizen on the streets of Lagos especially, and Nigeria in general. One common platform on which I have chosen all three is the fact that the activities for which I rated them, involved use of mass media - especially Television - affording them far reaching access to a large majority of the populace, and touching MORE lives as a result. Not satisfied with that? Then go do your own ranking! Click the link below to read the full report about this Top 3 ranking which will be an annual activity of the SDAc from now on. This article is part of my campaign to make Nigerians & Africans in general realise they can take control of their own destinies through individual/ personal action. Like I have said in many of my previous writings, people in our part of the world seem so preoccupied with material things, and very often want to pass responsibility for improvement of their circumstances to others - or some spiritual being, when many times it is they who need to get up and take control! In this article I will be tracing our history BEFORE colonisation, as is now being retold by so many so-called leaders, and calling attention to the fact that nobody - least of all the white man - can stop us Black Africans from becoming a force to reckon with in today's world, the way we "ruled" in those pre-colonial days. Like the Asians did/are doing, we can also do it. BUT do we want to? Central to my discussion is an exploration of the reason(s) why the following saying about Black people, though upsetting, tends to ring true for MOST of us: "If you want to hide something from a black man, put it in a book!". A WARNING ABOUT THIS ARTICLE!As I like to say when I discuss/write about issues like this, there will always be exceptions to every rule or situation in life. I expect those exceptions will apply to the issues I have discussed here. If you happen to be a black African - or a concerned "foreigner" (who feels s/he KNOWS enough to comment intelligently) - and you find yourself aggrieved by any of what I have said here, let me quickly upset you even further by stating as follows: I have absolutely NO apologies or regrets for writing any of this - and I have NO intention whatsoever of engaging ANYONE, not even the President of any country on the matter in correspondence or discussion! If you think the picture I paint inaccurately represents you or your own society, then please get your own space on the net and say your piece with reference to this article(I believe hyperlinks were created for that purpose) if you feel so inclined. As far as I am concerned, all of what I say here remain REAL issues that most black African societies MUST accept the NEED to deal with if they are to move forward. Therefore, to paraphrase Bob Marley, "Let whom the cap fits wear it!" Tayo K. Solagbade - Tuesday 30th January 2007 <Click here to continue reading>
