Why The Focus On Information And Education?
"..the
biggest challenge facing most African nations is to
creatively adapt ideas to their unique environment."
- Mr. Patrick Boateng, Adviser for
Africa, US Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
at the African Internet Summit and Exhibition(AFRINET)
2002, held in Abuja, Nigeria.
In the October
20, 2000 edition of Newsweek magazine, Tim Berners-Lee,
inventor of the World Wide Web(NOT the Internet, which
was created 20 years before the web) in an interview
expressed his belief that the Internet presents a
"real chance" of integrating the Third World
with the rest of the world.
He narrated a story(told to
him by someone who had been a missionary in Africa)
about a woman who had taught herself English through
the Bible, and subsequently began earning a living
by translating documents received in English over
the net into the local dialect. As Tim put it, Internet
access can enable a person earn income in a way that
would not have been possible before, and can even
benefit an entire village. He added that there are
numerous jobs which are just "information-in,
information-out" that anyone anywhere in the
world can do if they are given access to the Internet.
(SDAc invites you to visit www.freelanceworkexchange.com
to see countless examples).
The SDAc, through
this website aims to demonstrate practically, specific
ways any individual or group can successfully utilise
self-development, in conjunction with technology and
the Internet, to empower themselves economically,
socially and politically. We will provide real-world
relevant information and education that will equip
our target audience with competencies they need to
more frequently achieve authentic personal successes,
and also show them how they can help others like themselves,
achieve similar successes. |

Business Profit Making Combined With Social Development
"I want
to be part of a South Africa and Africa sending out
a new message to the world, of taking responsibility
for our own challenges. The world has got used to
a picture of Africa asking for support, with cupped
hands. It's time we create a new image of Africa.
It's time that we ourselves start giving and assert
our sense of dignity. We deserve respect. It is time
we stop apologizing for ourselves and acknowledge
our achievements".
- Graça Machel -Mandela
Even though we
are engaged in people development and empowerment,
the SDA is NOT - and has no intention of becoming
- a Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO). We maintain
a profit making focus, and believe that by so doing,
we will be better able to empower our target audience
with income-generating skills than if we ourselves
depended on grants and other unearned income sources
to fund our operations. Click

Why
I Do What I Do, The Way I Do It
People sometimes ask me to tell them
exactly what I am trying to do through my work on
Self-Development Education (SDE)
in Nigeria/Africa. I wrote this paper to answer
questions like that. Many Nigerians/Africans –
young and not so young – do not know that
they are basically responsible for most of what
happens to them. They’ve been brought up to
believe that to get ahead in life, they need only
seek the favour of those already “up there”
– in government, power, authority, successful
persons etc. Some are advised to get deeply religious
and “pray ceaselessly” for a miracle
to turn their lives around for the better. This
"attitude", though useful in some ways,
is inadequate to produce the results desired by
most people. That is why, as I explain in this paper,
I advocate diligent application of proven self-development
principles by individuals, to significantly increase
their chances of achieving their set goals.

Is
"Suffering" Good Or Bad?
Viewing adversity in a positive light(be
it in business or everyday life) has, for me, from
experience turned out to be asking too much of Nigerians
in general. It is simply “not in our character”
to do so! As soon as a problem/difficulty appears
to go on for longer than we feel we can tolerate,
or if it happens once too often for us to rationalize,
we begin looking for someone or something to blame.
Then the “Devil”(poor guy) gets accused
of trying to make us fail. Or someone in the “village”
is fingered for “using remote control”
to make our fortunes go sour. It can get worse -
sometimes friends/relatives tell the affected person
s/he must have done something wrong and ask him/her
to pray for God to stop demonic attacks etc. This
article presents timeless wisdom(based on testimonies
by entrepreneurs of repute), and the author's personal
experiences, that completely invalidate these frequently
perpetuated myths.

When
I Quit My Job, They Called Me "Mad" -
And I Felt So, So, Sorry For Them! (True
Story)
"Many
people still think you must have been mad to have
done what you did". Those were the
words uttered to me by a former senior colleague
that I held in considerably high esteem. My response
to THAT "verdict" about my mental state
of health, ostensibly passed by some of my former
colleagues was along the lines of "My
only regret is that I did not do it sooner!"
- and I meant it. In this article, I reveal the
TRUE fear-fueled motives that many salary earners(and
their employers) have for readily casting aspersion
on a member who chooses to switch from paid to self-employment
despite offers of career advancement. Of interest
may be my use of details from the refusal letter
sent to me by the UK Home Office(regarding my HSMP
application to access the UK market for business
opportunities as a self-employed person) to back
up my points. Some of the assertions I make in this
article WILL upset persons in paid employment, but
that will not change the fact that they are ACCURATE
representations of what happens in our society today!
I of course am first to admit that NOT all
salary earners are guilty of the practices I refer
to. My purpose here is to help the interested
reader understand that - notwithstanding startup
pains - self-employment can be a prestigious and
fulfilling alternative to the daily rat race in
paid employment. I hope you enjoy your read - and
tell others!! Continue...

The
World's Future Prosperity Depends On The Creation
And Evolution Of Digital Multipreneurs(Vision
2006 White Paper - Downloadable
Acrobat PDF)
The world's most successful entrepreneurs in the
future will be Multipreneurs. That is why I believe
our future economic(and sociopolitical) prosperity
depends greatly on the creation, and evolution
of INDIVIDUALS I call Digital Multipreneurs™
in every society. They will be multi-skilled,
independent minded thinkers, with a passion for
creatively adapting Technology and The Internet,
to achieve sustainable economic(and sociopolitical)
benefits. These individuals will be notorious
for depending MORE on their Creative Brain Power
- and LESS on their Muscle Power - in working
to ensure they can continually provide for themselves
and those that depend on them. They will also
be recognised for their ability to successfully
coach willing others to become competent to succeed
in society in the same way. In preparing themselves(and
those they coach) to succeed, they will typically
emphasise functional skills and knowledge acquisition,
over formal schooling. Most significantly, they
will be known for earning income mainly while
working from home, using digital technology and
Internet resources, instead of being what Robert
Kiyosaki calls "paycheck slaves". Their
activities will ultimately have a multiplier developmental
effect on their societies. Incidentally, such
individuals already exist today, especially in
developed societies – proving that this
idea WORKS. That is why Self-Development Academy(SDAc)'s
main objective is to actively promote the proliferation
of D-Multipreneurs™. Continue...

Does
Your Child Have Educational Dyslexia?(Special
Report - Downloadable Acrobat PDF)
Many children who failed or refused to learn in
formal school systems, often ended up becoming extremely
successful later on in life – sometimes in
fields that require formal schooling or literacy,
and in certain curious instances, without even having
continued formal schooling. Examples include Albert
Einstein(who according to his teachers, was "dull-witted"
and "would never amount to anything")
and Thomas Edison. Edison’s teachers had concluded
he was “addled”. That meant they believed
Edison’s brain was not functioning well enough
to enable useful learning. But thankfully, his mother
refused to accept what they told her. If she had,
we probably would not have his 1091 inventions –
including the light bulb and electricity. Edison
was later reported to have said: "My
mother was the making of me. She was so true, so
sure of me, and I felt I had someone to live for,
someone I must not disappoint." This
report has been written for parents. It provides
revealing insight to the harmful nature of our traditional
teaching methods - and how they hinder learning
by some children(e.g. my first son), making them
appear incapable of learning - hence the term "Educational
Dyslexia" i.e. a learning
difficulty caused by the teaching method used.
Hopefully, by the time you finish reading this report,
you will understand why YOUR child may NOT be the
dullard you (or they make you) think s/he is. And
like Thomas Edison's parent, you will(I hope) take
action to help him/her using the practical methods
described in this report! Continue...

I
Flopped Badly At The National Finals(How NOT To
Prepare For/Deliver An Important Presentation -
TRUE STORY)
The lessons I share in this article are based mainly
on a true-life experience I had about 9 years ago(1997)
while delivering a management research paper at
the National Finals of a high profile competition.
I provide graphic details of how my inexperience
made me take certain important preparatory steps
for granted - which eventually led to a botched
presentation that caused me considerable embarrassment,
and a 5th place position that I would have bettered
on a good day. Ironically, the "equivalent
benefit" of that adverse experience came to
my rescue about 5 years later(in 2002) - during
my first year in self-employment as a Self-Development/Performance
Enhancement Specialist. Then I used the
lessons from my failed presentation to deliver a
successful presentation at the Center for
Management Development(CMD), despite
being told midway through my presentation to finish
in one(1) instead of two(2) hours, and in spite
of the fact that a power cut occurred that forced
me to fall back on my printed speaker notes to finish
my presentation. Read this article - It provides
a comprehensive summary of useful learning points,
and also offers very practical ideas about what
can go wrong, and how you can improvise to STILL
deliver a successful presentation. Continue...

Proven
5-Step Formula You Can Use To Learn ANYTHING You
Want!(Special
Report - Downloadable Acrobat PDF)
What qualifies me to write on this subject? It is
the fact that everything I say in this e-book is
based on many significant achievements I have recorded(in
my personal/work life - both while in, and after
leaving paid employment), which many others have
been witnesses to. What I aim to teach you to do
through this book has enabled me repeatedly surprise
colleagues, friends, relatives, associates and others,
who at various times had assumed I did not have
the ability to do one or more things necessary to
achieve a certain goal I had set for myself. All
I ask is that the reader - YOU - understand and
accept(as pre-requisite for making successful use
of the ideas I share here) that development of a
positive mind set, mental stamina and visualization
are the most crucial elements needed to succeed
in any areas of human endeavour via the application
of proven self-development techniques. Continue...

Compete
ONLY Against Yourself - And Enjoy The Rewards Of
Being A Truly Liberated Mind!
Due to the way some people have been brought up
- coupled with the programming done on their minds
in formal schooling systems - they believe that
to get ahead in life, they need to compete with
another person. That's why you find people who claim
to be friends(sometimes even relatives) working
hard to outdo one another. One frequent fallout
of their desperation to better(or get "one-up"
on) each other is the absence of true sincerity,
love and free, candid expression of feelings that
would normally be expected to exist in such relationships.
I believe anyone who wants to get great fulfillment
in life, must live without carrying the burden of
anxiety caused by a need to keep up with, or outdo
another person, in order to look good/appear successful.
This article explains why competing ONLY
against yourself(like I do!) will help
you live a more productive, fulfilling and LONGER
life.

A lot of people today simply want to get their spreadsheet

Your Business Cards So They Help You Continue "Selling"
To Your Prospects LONG After You've Parted Ways
Your business card "says" something about
you, to those who receive it.:The question is WHAT
does it "say"
- or what does it NEED to "say"
that'll help you achieve what(hopefully) is a major
goal you have for being in business i.e. making
MONEY...profitably? Do you not give out your card
often times in the hope that the recipient(based
on your discussions), may remember and call you
regarding products/services you offer? Does your
card make it easy for that to happen i.e. does it
keep "selling" you to your prospect EVEN
after you leave, thereby enhancing your ability
to generate leads/close sales? I offer you some
ideas - that challenge conventional thinking about
how your business card should be designed and used
- based on what I do.

Can
Someone Else Really Steal The (Business) Idea You
Have In Your Head?
I say NO, for the simple reason that short of their
being psychic, others around you are unlikey to
be able to "see" an idea you originate
in exactly the same way you see it. Allowing yourself
to become preoccupeid with the possibility that
someone will "steal" your idea will only
cause you needless anxiety. And this could result
in your being too discouraged or worried to take
your idea to the next level - which would be a shame.
Read this article to understand why you must not
let this happen to you, if you want to be able to
look back in future and feel that you lived a truly
fulfilled life. Continue...

Hacker's
Exploitation Of A CGI Script On My Website To Send
Massive Spam Emails - Hard Lessons Learnt!
On Tuesday 20th June 2006, I discovered that a hacker
exploited a site recommendation script I installed
3 days earlier(!), to send out spam email from my
website, causing my web host to take it offline
for 7 days i.e. up till Wednesday 28th June 2006
a.m. If you own a website, and are trying to build
online credibility towards doing legitimate business,
you may (want to?) know how damaging this kind of
attack can be - and what you can do to protect yourself.
Incidentally, no matter how big or small your website
is, spam robots will come to it - and spammers will
test your website for loopholes they can exploit
to launch spam attacks - so you must learn latest
security concerns and take preventive action to
protect yourself. If you think it can never happen
to you, let me warn you: that's exactly what I thought,
UNTIL I made the slip which allowed a spam artist
drive a massive "spam mail truck" through
my website! In this article, I offer you an insight
into my personal experiences and learnings, plus
provide URLs (some sent to me by the support department
of my web host - others I found through my own subsequent
research) leading to useful advice from experienced
webmasters, and professionals with proven competence
in this area. Continue...

Write
Great Articles That Get Read, By Computing The Readers’
Interest Index (RII)™ For Your Articles As
A Guide!
It is possible to write a great article that never
gets read by most of those who visit the site it
is published on, even though it contains useful
information they would appreciate – IF they
saw it. A major reason why this happens is often
the article title: No matter how loaded the complete
article is with useful knowledge for readers, if
the title is not “attention-getting”,
and “action-inducing” enough to compel
them to click “for more”, you may not
be rewarded with as much exposure as your efforts
would deserve. (Then there is of course the issue
of keyword research in crafting an article title,
which ultimately affects how easily an article will
get found via search engines). Read this article
to learn about the “Article Readers’
Interest Index (RII)™ Analysis” that
can help you determine what titles your visiting
online readers are most interested in. What you
discover using that tool, will better equip you
to decide, more intelligently, on the next article
title/area to write on, that will give you the maximum
marketing exposure you desire. Continue...

Entrepreneurs
Need Opportunities To Serve For A Profitable Fee
- NOT Handouts Or Pity!
What would be your reaction if an individual just
starting up, or in the difficult early stages of
running, his/her business came to you with a proposal,
asking you to consider purchasing part-ownership
in it? Would you look objectively at his/her ability,
the market potential of his (hopefully) unique offering
and other relevant details, in taking a decision?
In other words - if it was there - would you be
willing to see an opportunity for a potentially
rewarding/mutually beneficial relationship? Or are
you likely to conclude s/he is just someone you
can feel sorry for, and help out with say, some
money? This article can help prospective investors
or clients/customers - especially those in developing
societies - understand why a TRUE entrepreneur will
PREFER to request a fair and impartial opportunity
to give you a solution or benefit you will be WILLING
to part with YOUR money, or other equivalent valuable
in exchange for. It also offers experience based
ideas for entrepreneurs who may be plagued with
self-doubt arising from poor responses from prospective
clients/customers and investors. Continue...

Accelerate
Organisational Learning - Use Formal Problem Solving
Techniques To Boost Productivity!
Formal Problem Solving techniques help to quickly
extract the most relevant information regarding
the cause of a problem being experienced, and also
facilitate development of appropriate alternative
approaches/solutions towards achieving the desired
goals. One major reason why they are so effective
is that the ideas generated and solutions developed
get formally documented for future reference by
operatives. That way, whatever the organisation
learns about what works or does not work in any
area, is always made accessible for use by all those
who have to perform various required tasks towards
achieving the ultimate goal of the enterprise. Continue...

Boost
Employee Productivity Without Increasing Salaries
- Proven, Yet Little Used Strategies
Organisations or employers need to realize that
if they want sustainable improvements in employee
productivity, it will NOT happen through repeated
resort to salary increases – or promotions.
Even employee training does not always yield desired
long term results. Some companies send employees
on routine training, but neglect to investigate
what an individual employee’s REAL developmental
need is - often resulting in the training expenses
and other resources being wasted. What is needed,
is for the employee to be empowered - with the appropriate
exposure and resources - to achieve his/her maximum
career potential. In this article, I describe some
relatively little used, but tested and proven strategies,
that can be successfully applied within any organisation,
to achieve sustainable improvements in employee

Empower
Your Child To Succeed - Teach Him/Her How To Think
Independently, And Say No(When Necessary)
When can you truly say that you have succeeded in
life? I believe it is when you can point to OTHERS
around you, that have succeeded as a result, directly
or indirectly, of your efforts to empower them to
achieve their purposes in life(your personal success
is subordinate to this). OTHERS here will include
YOUR children, if you have any. Look at it this
way: If a baby Eagle fails to learn how to hunt
successfully in the wild, in order to survive and
flourish like its mother, it would die of starvation
i.e. FAIL! There is a saying in my homeland(Africa)
that "It is not possible for a Lion
to give birth to a Lamb". What this
implies is that your offspring for the most part
should be a reflection of yourself, especially in
their ability to make a success of their time on
earth like you have - or possibly better! This article
offers parents practical ideas for equipping their
kids to successfully relate with age mates or older
persons, without losing sight of who they are, or
what their most important values and priorities
are.Continue... |

Become

Makers Take Favourable Notice Of You!
I don't care how many management courses you have

hands-on activity, that can only be fully mastered

in the organisations they work. YOU can do this
by creating frequent and repeated opportunities
for yourself to get considered or noticed for secondment
- even promotion. If that sounds impossible,
let me assure you it is NOT: You just need
to know how to go about it, which is something this
article can help you learn. Continue... |
